How Nic-Hit mini-lozenges work

Nic-Hit mini-lozenges are a nicotine replacement therapy that dissolves in your mouth to help relieve cravings and withdrawal symptoms while you quit.

Nicotine is absorbed through the lining of your mouth, no chewing, no swallowing, no spraying required.

Available in 1 mg and 2 mg strengths, the mini-lozenge can greatly increase your success in quitting in combination with a support program and counselling.

How to Use Nic-Hit Mini-Lozenge

Place the mini-lozenge in your mouth and allow it to slowly dissolve. Do not chew or swallow it. Although it is not harmful, it will not work as well.

Occasionally move the mini-lozenge from one side of your mouth to the other until it is completely dissolved.

Step #1: Weeks 1–6

Use 1 mini-lozenge every 1 to 2 hours to help manage nicotine cravings and withdrawal symptoms.

Do not use more than 15 mini-lozenges per day.

7-9
Step #2: Weeks 7–9

Reduce usage to 1 mini-lozenge every 2 to 4 hours.

Begin gradually decreasing the number of mini-lozenges used per day as your cravings become more manageable.

10-12
Step #3: Weeks 10–12

Further reduce usage to 1 mini-lozenge every 4 to 8 hours.

Continue decreasing use until you no longer feel the need for nicotine replacement.

Reducing your usage

The goal of treatment is to gradually reduce and eliminate your need for nicotine while controlling cravings. Some individuals find it helpful to replace certain doses with regular or sugar-free candy as they reduce usage.

Additional guidance
  • Stop smoking completely while using this product
  • Gradually reduce the number of mini-lozenges used per day as cravings decrease
  • Do not use for more than 6 months without consulting a healthcare professional

Important Safety Information

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medication obtained with or without a prescription. This is especially important if you take medications containing:

  • Theophylline (to treat asthma)
  • Clozapine (for schizophrenia)
  • Ropinirole (to treat Parkinson’s disease)

Consult your doctor before using this product if you have or have had:

  • Heart, thyroid, circulation, stomach, throat, or mouth problems
  • High blood pressure
  • Or if you are taking insulin or any prescription medication
  • Do not use this product for more than six (6) months without consulting a healthcare practitioner
  • Stop using this product and consult your doctor if you experience:
    • Irregular heartbeat
    • Chest pain
    • Leg pain
    • Severe or persistent stomach upset (indigestion or heartburn)
  • Consult your doctor if you have difficulty reducing your nicotine intake

Overdose Warning

In case of overdose, or if a child takes one or more mini-lozenges, contact your doctor or a Poison Control Centre immediately. Children are especially sensitive to even small amounts of nicotine.

Symptoms of overdose may include:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Cold sweat
  • Dizziness
  • Disturbed hearing and vision
  • Mental confusion
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Marked weakness
Additional Precautions

  • Do not become pregnant while using this product

  • Nic-Hit mini-lozenge 1 mg contains 1 mg of Nicotine
    (as Nicotine Polacrilex)
  • Nic-Hit mini-lozenge 2 mg contains 2 mg of Nicotine
    (as Nicotine Polacrilex)

Non-medicinal ingredients:
Acacia Gum, Carboxymethylcellulose Sodium, Coconut Oil, Corn Starch, Flavor, Glyceryl Caprylate/Caprate, Magnesium Stearate, Mannitol, Microcrystalline Cellulose, Polyvinyl Alcohol, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Steviol Glycosides, Talc, Titanium Dioxide and Xylitol.

This product can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them. This product can give the same side effects as other ways of taking nicotine. The side effects generally depend on the dose you take.

You may experience unwanted effects because by stopping smoking you have reduced the amount of nicotine you are taking. You may also experience these effects if you underuse this product before you are ready to reduce your nicotine intake.

Usual side effects may include:
  • Hiccups
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Local tingling or burning sensation in the mouth
  • Changes in taste perception
  • Dryness or increased amounts of saliva in the mouth or throat
  • Feelings of indigestion
Common side effects may include:
  • Irritability, aggression, impatience or frustration
  • Anxiety or restlessness
  • Problems concentrating
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Increased appetite or weight gain
  • Depression
  • Urges to smoke
  • Lowered heart rate
  • Bleeding gums
  • Dizziness
Less common side effects may include:
  • Cough
  • Pain or discomfort in the abdomen or chest
  • Vomiting
  • Flatulence or diarrhea
  • Tightness or numbness of the throat
  • Fatigue
Rare side effects may include:
  • Runny nose, congestion, sneezing or wheezing (bronchospasm)
  • Bleeding
  • Changes in how things smell
  • Difficulty breathing (dyspnea)
  • Skin flushing or cold sweat
  • Eye irritation or increased tear production
  • Pain, tension or discomfort in muscles or joints
  • Toothache
  • Inflammation of the tongue or gums
  • Damage to the lining of the mouth
  • Changes in the sound of your voice
  • Palpitations or rapid heart rate
  • Decreased appetite
  • Hypersensitivity (allergy), including rash and/or itching (pruritus, urticaria)

When you stop smoking you may also develop mouth ulcers. The reason why this happens is unknown.
